As we say goodbye to 2022 and the new year commences, resolutions are always a topic of discussion. Find out below some ways to enrich the health and relationship with your golden for the new year!
Devoting more time with your golden is the most important resolution. Taking trips with your golden makes priceless memories. Take your golden to a veterinary opthalmologist to screen them for Golden Retriever Pigmentary Uveitis (GRPU). Even if you do not have any concerns with your goldens eyes, early detection of this devastating disease is crucial for a good prognosis. If your golden has GRPU they may not show any signs of it especially in the beginning stages so you may find out they have it and it is too late to manage it. This disease results in glaucoma and ultimately blindness. If their eye pressures cannot be maintained with eye drops, unfortunately, you may have a difficult decision to make.
Stay on top of your golden’s grooming maintenance. Keeping up with your goldens nail trims, teeth brushing, ear cleaning, and bathing can be difficult. Setting up reminders on your calendar can help you remember when you need to treat your goldie to a spa day!
Increasing your goldens exercise is great for their overall health. You can take them on more frequent and/or longer walks. You could also take them to a park.
